Manchester United veteran manager Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed his young defender Phil Jones for his “fantastic” performance recently, adding that the 21-year-old’s versatility enables him to be fielded anywhere, including centre forward.
The England international has not been able to clock up too many appearances for the Red Devils this season, with his progress hampered by injuries. But in his total 16 match appearances in all competitions this season, Jones has proved vital in Manchester United’s set-up, helping the team tie down tricky players like Everton’s Marouane Fellaini and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
“His talent is unbelievable”, the Scottish tactician told Manchester United’s official site. “You could play him anywhere, I think you could play him centre-forward! He’s just that type of player.
“He grasps the game, he understands it. He’s an animal for football”, Ferguson continued.

The Red Devils boss added that he has no problem playing Jones anywhere. “Play him right-back? Brilliant. Play him centre-midfield? No problem. Play him centre-back? Terrific.
“He’s just one of those unusual players you get now and again who can play anywhere.”
Manchester United are currently 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League table and will be looking to extend that lead to 18 when they host fierce rivals Manchester City in one of the most anticipated Manchester derbies of the season on Monday at Old Trafford.
