Malaga striker Roque Santa Cruz may soon complete a transfer to Brazilian side Botafogo, according to his agent Robson Lima, who claims that the two parties are close to sealing a deal.

The Paraguayan striker, currently on loan at Malaga from parent club Manchester City, has won fans at La Rosaleda – with good reason.

He has scored ten goals and notched three assists in all competitions this season, including a crucial second-half goal against Portuguese giants FC Porto in the Champions league, which sent Malaga through to the quarter-finals.

"The situation is very easy. [Santa Cruz] wants to play for Botafogo and the club are interested in signing him. There’s no mystery in that”, Lima told Radio Tupi.

"Botafogo’s hierarchy is very serious about winning, they’re a winning club. The club plays straight [football] and Santa Cruz is pleased [to hear of the interest].”

Lima added that playing closer to his family is another motivation for the Paraguayan to move back to South America.

“His wife is urging him to play closer to home so this move to Botafogo is a solution for him.”

Santa Cruz‘s loan deal with Malaga ends in June, at the same time as his contract with Manchester City expires.
