Ajax have slammed talk that the club’s highly-rated playmaker Christian Eriksen is bound to make a move to Merseyside giants Liverpool in the summer. The Dutch side’s press officer, Eefje Schep, stressed that people should be patient and wait for the club’s official statements.

Eriksen’s enigmatic form – 12 goals and 21 assists for club and country this season – has attracted a long list of suitors from different parts of Europe, with English clubs Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle and Tottenham, as well as Serie A giants Inter Milan, all interested.

But news about Eriksen making a move to Anfield this summer has been so prevalent of late that Ajax have decided to come out and quell the rumours.

"We only send out a press release once an agreement between Ajax and another club has been made regarding a player’s transfer”, Schep told Danish channel TV2.

“So at this time, we have no statement to release because there is no agreement that has happened between Ajax and Liverpool."

Pushed hard for details, Schep said: "[It doesn’t matter] whether negotiations are happening or not. We do not comment on transfer rumours.

"Right now, Christian Eriksen’s only focus is playing for Ajax until the end of the season.

"We have important games left to play and that’s what he’s focused on.”

Eriksen’s contract with Ajax expires in the summer of 2014.
