Joel Campbell has accepted that his recent performances for Real Betis have been below par, but has insisted he is not distracted by thinking about his future, and is working hard to improve.

The Costa Rica striker is on loan at Betis from English Premier League giants Arsenal, and Pepe Mel’s men are keen to keep the 20-year-old for the 2013/14 campaign, with his performances having been well received in the first half of the season.

However, no deal has yet been finalised and Campbell has seen his recent performances for Betis criticised, with the feeling that his best form this season is behind him.

That is something the hitman denies, although he does accept he has not quite been at the races of late.

"I know that in the last few games I have struggled a bit and I have talked to Roberto Rios [Betis assistant coach, ed.] about this", Campbell told Al Dia.

"I believe everything happens due to the grind of the season; it is my second year in Europe and I have to get used to this.

"I have never had so many games in a row with such intensity."

The Costa Rica star is sure that he is not being distracted by thoughts over his future though and has pledged to improve.

"I am focused on what I am doing here, and that is to continue playing", he said.

"One goes in spurts, that is normal. I am not having a headache about it, but I know that I can give more and I will keep working hard to do well."

Campbell faces a big clash at the weekend, when Betis travel to take on Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
