Manchester United centre-forward Wayne Rooney has verbally requested a move away from Old Trafford following the shock retirement of long-serving manager Sir Alex Ferguson yesterday, according to the BBC.
The Liverpool-born forward has been at Old Trafford since August of 2004, when he moved from Everton in a £25M deal. Since then, the English international has appeared in a total 400 matches for the club, scoring 197 goals.
But Rooney is ready to end his nine-year stint at Manchester United, having asked the club to let him go for a second time – The striker has already asked for a transfer once in 2010, which he subsequently withdrew.
Rooney’s motivation for leaving could be speculated to be the pending announcement of outgoing Everton manager David Moyes. The two clashed in 2008, when Moyes sued the striker for libel over things Rooney had said in his autobiography.

Despite the outpouring of speculation, Manchester United seems intent on keeping their star player. A spokesperson for the club said: "Wayne Rooney is not for sale."
Rooney’s deal with the club won’t expire until 2015, but the Englishman may well head for the Old Trafford exit before that.
