Outgoing Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that he has turned down a transfer request from star striker Wayne Rooney.
Speculation has been rife in the past few days about the immediate future of England international Rooney following the announcement of Ferguson’s retirement last Wednesday, with the likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain touted to be his potential destinations this summer.
But Ferguson, in perhaps one of his last moves as Red Devils boss, has urged the centre-forward to stay, telling the club’s official site, "He’s asked for a transfer, we’ve refused it and that’s where it lies."
Rooney was not on the squad list for Manchester United’s 2-1 win against Michael Laudrup’s Swansea City at Old Trafford yesterday, something Ferguson insists is completely justified.

"It was better he didn’t play; he can mull it over now. He’s not happy about being taken off a few times but Wayne in top form would not be taken off.
"He should think about his future here because he will be here", the 71-year-old manager concluded.
The 27-year-old has already made a total 400 appearances for Manchester United since his move from Everton in 2004, scoring 197 goals along the way.
