Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao may be reunited with ex-manager and compatriot Jose Mourinho sooner than many may think, as the Portuguese defender is tipped to make a sensational switch to Chelsea this summer.
Coentrao is just about to finish his second year of stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, but talk is already loud on him leaving the Spanish capital, with him poised to move to Stamford Bridge for €18m, according to Spanish daily Marca.
Real Madrid are believed to be calm about the Portuguese’s impending move, despite the hordes of cash splashed to prise him from Primeira Liga giants Benfica two summers ago – a gut-wrenching €30M – because his performances have not kept up with the club’s expectations.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have a long-term quandary with their own left-back, Ashley Cole, who is getting no younger. Indeed, there was talk last year that the 2012/13 campaign would be the 32-year-old’s last season at Stamford Bridge, although he eventually signed a renewed deal until 2014.

All things weighed in, the London-based club see Coentrao as a long-term replacement for Cole, and it should be a move that should make Mourinho, strongly tipped to be Chelsea’s new manager come next season, satisfied.
Coentrao has a long-term contract with Real Madrid that sees him locked up at the Santiago Bernabeu until the end of the 2016/17 season.
