New Manchester United boss David Moyes has moved to make his first mark at Old Trafford, dismissing assistant manager Mike Phelan and goalkeeping coach Eric Steele.
Phelan, a former Manchester United right-back-cum-midfielder, had been assistant to the now-retired Sir Alex Ferguson since 2008, having been the club’s first-team coach since 2001.
Steele, a former Newcastle United and Watford custodian, has been at Old Trafford as goalkeeping coach since 2008, taking over the place of Tony Coton.
"I would like to put on record the club’s thanks for everything Mike and Eric have done", Moyes told in a statement on the club’s official site.

"I will be looking to appoint my own members of coaching staff at some point in the future, however, I’d like to take this opportunity to give them both our best wishes for their future careers."
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, for his part, has also released a statement: "I’d like to thank Eric and Mick for the enormous contributions they have made to the success of Manchester United in their time here", he said.
"Their professionalism, ability and diligence have been a credit to them. They are top class football men and everyone here wishes them well for long and successful careers in the game."
