Manchester United first team coach Rene Meulensteen is considering his position at the Red Devils and may well depart the club, according to Dutch daily the Algemeen Dagblad.

Meulensteen has seen incoming manager David Moyes, who has been appointed to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson, dispense with the services of assistant manager Mike Phelan and goalkeeping coach Eric Steele, and the former Everton boss is determined to shake things up with his own appointments.

Meulensteen was charged with leading training sessions at Manchester United under Ferguson, a job Moyes is set to take up with a hands-on role. And while Meulensteen is likely to be kept if he wishes to stay, he is considering a departure.

The highly-regarded Dutchman has been lavished with praise internally at Old Trafford for the quality of his coaching, with Ferguson a big fan of his work.

Were Meulensteen to decide to leave the club, he would undoubtedly be in demand and not short of options.

It remains to be seen whether Meulensteen will accept a different role or change in his responsibilities at the Manchester United, but the Dutchman is unlikely to be pleased at seeing his coaching duties altered.

However, the off the pitch Moyes-led revolution at the Premier League champions is continuing apace.
