Schalke have moved to boost their defensive capabilities by signing Borussia Dortmund centre-back Felipe Santana on a three-year deal.
Santana had on Monday indicated his time at the Westfalenstadion was nearing an end, following nearly five years at the club.
The Brazilian’s time with the former Bundesliga champions has been one of struggle, with a guaranteed first-team place hard to come by.
Though he scored a vital goal against Malaga to help secure Borussia Dortmund’s progress towards the Champions League final, he remained an unused substitute at Wembley.

Santana told the Bundesliga’s official site: "I have had five great years in Germany, but they were not always easy for me.
"I look forward to this new challenge with Schalke."
Santana’s arrival comes less than two weeks after centre-back Christoph Metzelder announced his retirement from football after spending three years at Schalke.
Schalke general manager Horst Heldt said: "We are very pleased that Felipe Santana has opted for the FC Schalke 04.
"He is characterised by aggressive duel behaviour, reliability and goal threat. Moreover, in five years he already knows the Bundesliga."
