Marc Overmars, director of football of Eredivisie giants Ajax, has slammed reports in the Danish media claiming that a deal for Christian Eriksen between his club and Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund is almost signed and sealed, adding that the Ruhr giants have not even made an approach yet.

To say that Eriksen’s name has been at the centre of a transfer saga recently would be an understatement. Indeed, he has been a headline maker for months, linked most strongly with Dortmund and English Premier League giants Liverpool.

The relentless race for his signature started in February, when Ajax announced that Eriksen has no intention to sign a contract renewal with the club. And with the playmaker’s contract set to expire in 2014, the club know they have to cash in this summer before they lose the opportunity.

Soon, Manchester United slowly backed away from their pursuit of the Danish superstar, to much thanks from Liverpool, who found themselves in pole position to prise the midfielder from the Amsterdam ArenA – So much so that talk circulated about Eriksen’s move to Anfield being a done deal, something the club vehemently denied.

Then came Mario Gotze’s high-profile, cash-filled transfer to Bayern Munich. Dortmund suddenly found themselves in dire need of a replacement. The club then moved for the most viable target – Eriksen.

With the Danish media reporting that Eriksen’s Dortmund move is all but done, Ajax have once again found themselves in need of quelling the overwhelming rumours.

"In the Danish newspapers you can read all kinds of stories [regarding Eriksen], but Dortmund have not approached us", Overmars told Dutch daily the Algemeen Dagblad.

Eriksen’s haul in the past season includes 13 goals and 24 assists for both club and country. He has also earned 34 caps for Denmark overall, scoring two goals along the way.
