Monaco’s lofty ambitions for their Ligue 1 return mean their sights are set once again on the city of Manchester, this time on the red half, eyeing Portuguese winger Nani from Old Trafford, according to L’Equipe.

The principality club have been on a spending spree this summer, and had been linked with Manchester City frontman Carlos Tevez, a claim denied by Monaco’s sporting director Vadim Vasilyev.

But having already signed the likes of Radamel Falcao, Ricardo Carvalho, Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez, the newly promoted side are believed to be on the trail of Nani, who has seen his game time limited this season.

The 26-year-old had shown promise in his early years, following his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in 2007, but competition for places at the Premier League champions has not been lacking.

It means Nani managed just 11 league appearances this season fuelling rumours of an exit in the summer, with Juventus one of his suitors.

The winger was also sidelined with a hamstring injury in the middle of the season, but his overall record at Manchester United reads a respectable 216 games played with 39 goals.

the talented playmaker was not for sale.
