With the pursuit of bringing Paris Saint-Germain head coach Carlo Ancelotti to the Santiago Bernabeu turning into a wild goose chase, Real Madrid look set to ditch the plan altogether and go for the next alternative – Laurent Blanc.
PSG remain resolute in their intentions to lock down Ancelotti to the Parc des Princes after a plan to install sporting director Leonardo went to pieces when the Brazilian was slapped a nine-month touchline ban for pushing a referee.
The plan was to install Leonardo as a caretaker manager in order for the club to be able to approach Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger come next season and this would have allowed Ancelotti to leave.
But with Leonardo out of the question and Arsenal supremo Ivan Gazidis keen on keeping Wenger at the Emirates Stadium for more than just the next season, it seems Ancelotti will not be going anywhere anytime soon.

This has put Real Madrid into a quandary as well. With Ancelotti unavailable and their supposed plan B in Jupp Heynckes blowing over because of the German tactician’s plans to take a sabbatical from management, then Los Blancos have run out of options.
Enter Blanc, who is tipped to be closing in on being designated as the new Roma head coach.
According to Spanish daily Marca, Real Madrid are keen to sabotage that appointment altogether and bring Blanc to the Bernabeu, where sporting director and compatriot Zinedine Zidane would be able to give him a hand.
Blanc’s last stint as manager was that of the French national team, spending a total two years with Les Bleus before stepping down from the post on 30th June of last year.
