Portuguese heavyweights Sporting Lisbon are believed to be searching a new club for their wing-back Miguel Lopes in an effort to raise cash to meet their financial obligations, according to A Bola.

Lopes arrived in Lisbon during the early days of January from recently-crowned Primeira Liga champions FC Porto. Since then, the 26-year-old has clocked up a total of 16 appearances, assisting in three goals.

But with the Lions’ fiscal crisis showing no signs of abating any time soon, the club may be forced to sell Lopes and could move him to another team in the upcoming transfer window, in an effort to bolster the club’s funds.

Already, the club had to let go of their star striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel last March to Premier League side Norwich City, who parted with a fee totalling €10m to clinch their man – the 24-year-old former FC Utrecht star will join the Canaries on 1st July.

Lopes’ contract with Sporting Lisbon will not expire until the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

Lopes has already made four appearance for Portugal, making his debut for his country in a 3-1 friendly loss against Turkey on 2nd June 2012.
