The Football Association has announced that the 2013 Community Shield between English Premier League winners Manchester United and FA Cup winners Wigan Athletic will take place on 11th August at Wembley.
The Latics will make their debut in the contest and it will also be the first time since 1985 that Sir Alex Ferguson will not be in the dugout for the Red Devils.
Former Everton manager David Moyes, who will take helm as the manager at Old Trafford from 1st July, will also feature in his first-ever Community Shield game.
“You have to go all the way back to 1985 for the last time that Manchester United played in this fixture without Sir Alex Ferguson on the touchline so the eyes of the world will be on the Community Shield and Wembley when David Moyes leads them out in August”, Alex Horne, the FA’s general secretary, said.

Wigan won their first ever FA Cup in May, after a 1-0 victory over 2011/12 Premier League winners Manchester City.
They are however without a manager at the moment after former boss Roberto Martinez took charge as the manager of Everton last week.
“Wigan Athletic provided a fairy tale ending to this season’s FA Cup final, which was fitting in our 150th anniversary year, and it will be great to welcome them back to Wembley as they take on the double challenge of Europa League football and the Championship”, Horne added.
Money raised from the Community Shield is distributed by the FA to charities nominated by all the clubs who played from the first round onwards in the FA Cup competition last season.
