Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has revealed that the Champions League finalists are increasing their wage budget this season by 40%.

The Bundesliga side have already lost midfield gem Mario Gotze to Bayern Munich and striker Robert Lewandowski is tipped to follow him out of the door.

But Dortmund will not use the departures to trim their ambitions – or their budget.

"In the coming season we will have a salary budget of between €67m and €68m", Watzke told Welt am Sontag.

"This is certainly much more than two or three years ago.

"But compared to other teams in Europe it is not much."

Last season Dortmund’s wage budget sat at €48.5m, an amount which still allowed the team to reach the final of the Champions League and finish second in the Bundesliga.
