A transfer for Marco van Ginkel to Chelsea from Vitesse appears to be very firmly in the pipeline, especially with the news that the midfielder and his agent visited the Blues’ Cobham training ground on 26th May.
According to Inside Futbol sources, Van Ginkel jetted into London with his agent, making his way to a meeting with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s trusted advisor Michael Emenalo.
At the meeting, a phone call came in from none other than Jose Mourinho, who at that time was still in charge of Real Madrid.
The phone call was a positive one, as Van Ginkel and his agent discussed a switch to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are understood to see the Dutchman as a potential successor to Frank Lampard, with Van Ginkel an accomplished box-to-box midfielder with much potential.
Van Ginkel’s agent has insisted that other clubs are interested in his client and that no decision has been taken.
However, all the signs point towards the Holland star soon penning a deal with Chelsea, something his late May trip further supports.
Indeed, given the relationship between Vitesse and Chelsea, should Van Ginkel leave the Arnhem-based club this summer it is likely to be the Europa League winners he joins.
