English Premier League giants Liverpool are keen on signing highly-rated Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to the BBC.

The 24-year-old Armenian player has lifted three back-to-back league titles with the Ukrainian giants in 2010/11, 2011/12, and 2012/13, since his arrival at the club in the summer of 2010.

He has a contract at the Donbass Arena until June 2015.

Mkhitaryan is believed to have a £20m release clause in his contract with the Miners, and it is also thought that the Reds are willing to shell that amount for the player, who can also play as a forward.

He clocked up 51 appearances for his club and country in the 2012/13 season, scoring 32 times and assisting 14 times.

The Armenian international has also been linked with Italian heavyweights Juventus, as well as German giants Borussia Dortmund.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have also signed a deal in principle with 25-year-old Spaniard Iago Aspas.

The Reds have already snapped up Ivorian defender Kolo Toure from Manchester City this summer, and the former Arsenal centre-back will pen the contract at Anfield on 1st July.
