Paris Saint-Germain have moved to ease some of the uncertainty around their dugout by giving assistant coach Claude Makelele an extension to his contract at the Parc des Princes, according to L’Equipe.

The 40-year-old had been appointed to the role in January last year, and PSG have reaffirmed their faith in the former player by allowing him a stay until 2015, with the option of an additional season.

Makelele, who has Chelsea, Real Madrid, Marseille, Celta Vigo and PSG on the CV from his playing days, was deputy to Carlo Ancelotti, who has been subject to much speculation in recent months.

With Ancelotti yearning for a move to Real Madrid, there has been talk of Makelele being given the reins but he is understood to be lacking in the required coaching badges to take full charge.

Yesterday, reports had emerged that PSG sporting director Leonardo had been speaking to Russia national team coach Fabio Capello’s son over a possible move for the former England coach.

However, Pierfilippo Capello revealed after the meeting that his father’s move had not been part of the agenda at all.

Ancelotti’s desired shift to Real Madrid is understood to be only possible if PSG can appoint a successor, failing which the title-winning coach is expected to see out the year left on his contract.
