Jose Mourinho’s second stint at Chelsea could see a big-money signing in FC Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala, with a €50m release clause the key factor according to L’Equipe.

Mourinho, who recently added Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schurrle to Chelsea’s ranks, is keen on France international Mangala, who has a fair amount of Champions League experience.

He has been at Porto for nearly two years now, having moved from Standard Liege in Belgium, but has made his mark with 49 appearances for the league champions.

However, recent sales from Porto have proven that Mangala will not be let go on the cheap, as a €50m exit clause will test Chelsea’s desires given his contract until 2016.

Mourinho has been an admirer of the 22-year-old from his Real Madrid days, but buying him out of his contract could be tricky even if the backline at Stamford Bridge is reaching the age-barrier feared by top flight teams.

Monaco have already parted with a reported €70m combined for Joao Moutinho and James Rodriquez, with Porto chairman Pinto da Costa not known to give in easily to bigger clubs.

Mangala had proven himself worthy of a move to Portugal with his 98 games for Standard Liege, whose senior grade he moved to in 2008.

The centre-back has also played 23 times for France’s Under-21 side, and recently made his senior debut in a game against Uruguay.
