Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Shakhtar Donetsk, according to Sport-Express.

The Reds have been firmly in the hunt for the Armenian midfielder, who failed to show for Shakhtar Donetsk’s pre-season training camp recently, causing much disappointment for the club’s coach Mircea Lucescu and other Donbass Arena officials, who could not locate him.

Anzhi Makhachkala, Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with Mkhitaryan, but the player has always considered Liverpool his first choice destination, remaining firm in his desire to eventually end up at Anfield.

Liverpool are said to have agreed a fee of around €30m to sign Mkhitaryan from the Ukrainian champions and should make a statement about the transfer within the next few days.

Mkhitaryan is then expected to fly to Liverpool soon afterwards to iron out the remaining details and seal a dream switch to the 2005 Champions League winners.

The midfielder won much praise for his performances with Shakhtar Donetsk last season, finishing as the club’s top goalscorer, showing a ruthless touch, and saw his stock skyrocket further.

Mkhitaryan will forfeit European football altogether at Anfield next season in a sign of how keen he is to become a Liverpool player, with the Reds not having qualified for any form of European competition in 2013/14.
