Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis believes Edinson Cavani’s release clause is a better tool to decide his future destination than a "man-to-man" meeting as suggested by the player.
Amid the clamour for his signature, Cavani had yesterday revealed he was upset at reading speculation around his possible transfer to another club.
The player went on to request a meeting with De Laurentiis as soon as possible, in order to approach the situation "like real men do".
However, De Laurentiis has denied there is any need for talks with the player, whose release clause stands at €63m and who has been subject to intense links with Manchester City, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

"There is a clause", De Laurentiis was quoted by Spanish daily AS as saying. "There will come a time when a club brings €63m to the table and then we cannot keep him.
"With Cavani, we do not need a face-to-face. If an offer arrives, then fine. But if an offer is not produced, Cavani will stay in Italy and [manager Rafael] Benitez, like everybody in Napoli, will be very happy."
While Real Madrid were hailed as a "dream" club by Cavani, Manchester City were understood to be unwilling to front the release clause, a fact confirmed by De Laurentiis as well.
The Napoli president added: "A meeting [took place] with Manchester City, but there was no economic base to close the deal."
