Real Madrid are taking a close look at Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic and could move to sign the 24-year-old this summer, with new boss Carlo Ancelotti feeling Los Blancos’ engine room needs strengthening.
Matic, who joined Benfica from Chelsea, the deal initially being done in January 2011 with the player serving as a makeweight in the agreement which took David Luiz to Stamford Bridge, landed in Portugal in the summer of 2011.
And he has progressed quickly at the Estadio da Luz, becoming one of the brightest midfield prospects in Europe.
Chelsea have been keen to re-sign the Serbian, while Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Monaco have also been linked with making a bid for the player.

Now another of Europe’s elite are keen with, according to Portuguese daily Record, Real Madrid entering the running.
Matic has so far insisted he is happy to continue his development in Portugal.
But turning down the chance to move back to one of Europe’s bigger leagues could be a difficult thing for the Serbia international to do if an offer is indeed made.
