Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt has full faith that Julian Draxler will continue his footballing education with the club, despite admitting that offers for the talented midfielder will be commonplace going forward.

Draxler has been linked with Chelsea, but recently penned a long-term contract with Schalke – tying him down until 2018 – and then proceeded to turn down any idea of joining Manchester City or Real Madrid.

The 19-year-old’s release clause stands at €45.5m and it is understood both clubs were willing to meet that amount.

Schalke have been dealing well with young talent, having also taken on 17-year-old Max Meyer on a professional contract last season, and today confirming the arrival of 18-year-old Leon Goretzka from VfL Bochum.

"With Julian Draxler, Max Meyer and Leon Goretzka we have three, very young midfielders, who are used differently", Heldt told a press conference today that was relayed via the club’s feed.

"Julian Draxler should take a leading role with us despite being only 19 years old. He has already progressed very far for his age.

"For Julian, enquiries from other clubs have been coming for a long time and these will continue to accompany us. [But] it makes us happy and glad that Julian sees his future with us at Schalke."

Draxler’s long-term contract appears fully justified given his performances for Schalke, with him making 30 Bundesliga appearances last season and scoring 10 goals, alongside 10 Champions League games.
