Serie A side Napoli have launched a "monstrous" bid to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s highly-rated midfielder Marco Verratti, the player’s agent has revealed.

Verratti’s future with the Parisian heavyweights has been thrown into doubt as the two parties continue to wrangle on a new contract extension as the player seeks higher wages.

Prior to that, Serie A side Fiorentina were tipped to be interested in signing the young midfielder, but the club knew they could not meet the high transfer fee PSG would inevitably demand.

Now it is revealed that Napoli want to take a jab at Verratti, having made a considerable offer for the player, says the player’s agent Donato Di Campli.

"We are still far from agreeing with a deal with PSG, but Marco wants to stay with the club", the agent told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"There are no lack of offers [Verratti]. Just this week I received a monstrous offer from Napoli to sign Verratti but PSG want to keep the player. We, however, are not satisfied at the moment", Di Campli explained further.

Verratti’s current contract with PSG is set to expire in 2017.
