Napoli could be on their way to signing Jackson Martinez with an agreement in place according to the player’s agent, despite FC Porto remaining steadfast in their refusals.

Martinez’s agent Luis Manuel Manso is understood to be in Milan, seemingly for talks about another of his clients.

But that has not stopped speculation that there will be talks about the Porto player’s move to Napoli, the latter known to be Martinez’s admirers.

While Porto president Pinto da Costa has previously rejected talk any sale was imminent, Manso today revealed that Napoli were very much on board with the deal.

"There is an agreement between the player and Napoli", he told Sky Italia. "But we are missing an agreement with Porto.

"They don’t want to sell him. The only option in my opinion is to pay the €40m release clause. If not the deal won’t happen.”

It has long been known that Napoli boss Rafael Benitez wants another striker to give his side more depth, following the arrivals of several high-profile names this summer.

Earlier today, Manso had claimed that his visit to Italy was purely to "have meetings with three clubs" over a player named as Jhon Cordoba.
