Blackburn Rovers chief executive Derek Shaw has revealed that the club’s long serving midfielder Morten Gamst Pedersen can look for a new club this term.

The 31-year-old has been at the Lancashire-based club since 2004, but did not feature in Blackburn’s opening two games of the season.

Although the midfielder previously stated that he wants to stay with the Championship outfit and help them to promotion back to the Premier League, he may seek a move elsewhere if he finds his first team appearances limited at Blackburn.

Shaw was quoted as saying by the BBC: "There is no big issue. Morten is a top, top professional who wants to play football.

"He has found himself out of the team and we will do anything we can to assist a move. If a move comes along we won't stand in his way.

"You don't meet people as professional as Morten too often and he is a man who wants to play football."

The Norwegian international’s high wage may also be a factor as Blackburn are trying to adhere by the Football League's financial fair play regulations.

Pederson joined Blackburn from Tromso in 2004 and has made 340 appearances for the club.

He has a further year left on his current contract with Blackburn.

The midfielder has been capped 74 times by Norway and has 16 international goals to his name.
