Adem Ljajic and Fiorentina are both set for a quandary over the winger's future after Atletico Madrid stepped in with an offer to sign the former Tottenham Hotspur target.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Atletico have moved ahead of AC Milan, the club Ljajic was keen on joining, with a €10m bid.

Atletico's offer is believed to be better than that of Milan, as well as the terms with which Fiorentina were hoping to clinch Ljajic's contract extension.

It means Fiorentina will be required to decide whether to send Ljajic to a club of his choice, or accept the money to boost their transfer ambitions.

Negotiations between Atletico and Fiorentina are under way, and a formal meeting between leaders of both clubs could take place before this weeekend.

Ljajic was understood to have turned down the chance to join Spurs this summer, even if he would have been one of the potential replacements for Gareth Bale.

At the time, Milan were looking to give Ljajic a five-year deal at a more than €2m-a-year salary.

The Milan approach came just days after Fiorentina had rejected their €7m bid, with president Andrea Della Valle considering it "too low".

Ljajic is yet to pen a contract extension – his deal runs out next year – and Della Valle has made it clear the player must accept La Viola's terms or seek an exit.
