Monaco may be about to pull off a late coup in the transfer saga that is Geoffrey Kondogbia with a €12m deal in the offing, according to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido had last week warned all of Kondogbia's suitors that a deal was almost impossible.

He even maintained that the club would treat bidders as hostile if they attempted to match the release clause.

With Manchester United and Chelsea also believed to be looking at a possible transfer, it is Monaco who seem to have stolen into the race.

In fact, the deal could be complete within this week, contrary to claims from Monaco coach Claudio Ranieri earlier that the club's transfer dealings had come to a close.

Real Madrid had seen a bid turned down earlier this summer for Kondogbia, who was on the bench for last night's season opener against Atletico Madrid.

However, the 20-year-old has also not taken part in any of Sevilla's Europa League qualifiers either despite having a successful Under-20 World Cup with France.
