Arsenal have been dealt a fresh blow in their quest for new signings, with their proposed bid for goalkeeper Vicente Guaita deemed below-par by Valencia.

According to Valencia-based daily Supor Deporte, Guaita was all set to consider a Gunners' offer after recently expressing a desire to leave Valencia.

Arsenal even sent over financial officer Richard Law to Spain yesterday to broker a deal, but Valencia have now stonewalled their efforts.

Valencia have also stated they do not want to sell the goalkeeper at all, even if Guaitia is understood to have a €30m release clause attached.

He is under contract until 2015 but is known to be unhappy at being down the priority list for coach Miroslav Djukic.

Law's meeting with Valencia is believed to touched upon the subject of bids, but Valencia considered it below their own expectations.

Guaitia has spent all his domestic career with Valencia – barring a loan spell at Recreativo de Huelva – and has made a total of 90 appearances so far.

Valencia may not be seeing the last of Arsenal's approach, however, given that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is being pressured to spend big and do so quickly.
