PSV Eindhoven striker Ola Toivonen could end up staying at the Philips Stadion this season after talks on his exit appear to have broken down.

Carrow Road outfit Norwich City have been interested in clinching Toivonen's signature, with Everton and West Bromwich Albion still mulling over a move.

But with Toivonen himself keen on moving to a club with a bigger stature than Chris Hughton's mid-table side, the Sweden goalscorer's future looks to remain in the Eredivisie.

Indeed, Norwich have already lost patience and set their sights elsewhere, with Galatasaray goalpoacher Johan Elmander tipped to be their next target.

"Nothing new has happened. The state of things as it stands is that Ola will continue to play with us", PSV technical director Marcel Brands told Fotbollskanalen.

Brands has further revealed that even if Toivonen ends up staying with the Eredivisie side, he would not play for PSV until he agrees to a contract extension.

"He won't renew his contract with PSV, so he must settle for a reserve role. A transfer to Norwich was open earlier in the summer, but he seemed to have pulled the plug.

"He could have moved by then. Now I don't know if they are still interested", Brands concluded.
