Arsenal have stepped up efforts to bring goalkeeper Vicente Guaita to the Emirates by sending a representative over to Spain for talks with Valencia.

According to Marca, the Gunners are considering a bid – if one has already not taken place – for the 26-year-old, who is dissatisfied with his current situation.

The Spaniard has already indicated via his agent that he is keen on a "solution" to the problem that has seen him go down the pecking order.

Diego Alves was put in goal for match-day one of the new La Liga season against Malaga, where Valencia did emerge with a 1-0 win.

And that has indeed fanned the flames for Guaita, who does not see himself playing second fiddle at Valencia, having been a long-serving player going back to his youth days.

How the situation can improve with Arsenal already having the Polish duo of Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski is one for time to tell.

Guaita's reported market value is in the region of €7.5m, but the biggest factor would arguably be that the player is very keen to listen to offers from abroad.

For now, the Gunners are keen to at least show they are willing to spend some money after heavy criticism for boss Arsene Wenger.

The Frenchman has come under fire, especially after the opening-day defeat to Aston Villa, for not bringing high-profile signings, having already missed out on Liverpool's Luis Suarez.
