Barcelona winger Cristian Tello is delighted to have signed a new contract at the Camp Nou, revealing he knows he could have moved to Liverpool if he had wished.

Tello has extended his deal with the Catalan giants until the summer of 2018 and is now hopeful of receiving more chances to impress coach Gerardo Martino on the pitch.

Tello was not short of suitors had he decided to leave and singled out Liverpool as one of the destinations he could have landed at.

"I always wanted to stay at Barca", he was quoted as saying by Voetbal Primeur.

"The coach has a lot of confidence in me, I am happy here and I am ready for a lot of playing time.

"I feel better than in previous seasons. I know that Liverpool were very interested in me, but I never wanted to leave Barcelona."

The 22-year-old, who is known for his blistering pace and can also operate as a forward, flitted between Barcelona and Espanyol before making his name at the Camp Nou.

Capped once at senior level by Spain, Tello managed 22 La Liga appearances for Barcelona last season as the club won the Spanish title.
