Ajax have signed the first Chinese player in their history after 18-year-old midfielder Wang Chengkuai penned a two-year contract at the club.

Wang had been on trial at Ajax after leaving Dalian Shide FC earlier this year when the club quit the Chinese Super League.

He has signed on with Ajax as a free agent, with his deal set to run until September 2015, as announced on the club's website.

A statement read: "Ajax have reached an agreement with Wang Chengkuai.

"The attacking midfielder recently signed a contract in Amsterdam that was signed on 1st September, 2013 and runs for two seasons, until 1st September, 2015."

According to China's official news agency Xinhua, Wang will ply his trade with Ajax's reserve side who take part in the second division in Holland.

The Ajax first team are currently fourth in the new Eredivisie season, having picked up 14 points from eight games.

They were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw in their Champions League clash against AC Milan last night, when Mario Balotelli cancelled out Stefano Denswil's 90th-minute opener.
