Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) vice-president Marco Polo del Nero has all but confirmed that the Selecao will no longer be blocking Diego Costa's call-up to the Spain squad.

Del Nero, who is also a member of FIFA's 24-member executive committee and the president of the Sao Paulo state federation, revealed the news to Brazilian daily O Estado de Sao Paulo.

"If a player wants to play with us or with them [in Spain], then the CBF is not in any position to say no", Del Nero explained.

Costa, who has been playing for Spanish side Atletico Madrid since 2007, holds Brazilian and Spanish citizenship.

While Costa was born in Brazil, he is yet to play for any Brazilian club, having started his professional football career with Portuguese side Braga in 2006 before moving to Los Rojiblancos.

The striker already had two caps for Brazil under his name before he decided to shift allegiance to Spain after head coach Vicente del Bosque called him up for the squad that will face Belarus and Georgia in the upcoming international break.
