PSV Eindhoven attacking midfielder Ola Toivonen has at last accepted that his best interests lie in penning a contract extension at his current club.

Toivonen spent the summer seeking a transfer – aided by the club no less – a saga that included a failed switch to Norwich City.

He is now resigned to either a free transfer next year or sign an extension with PSV.

The Dutch giants are themselves hoping for the latter to put the saga behind them, and Toivonen had yesterday revealed a decision will be taken after the international break.

Today, however, the Swede has added to that statement by telling Expressen: "I will take the decision that is best for me and the best thing for me right now looks to be signing the contract.

"I have not had time to look at things, and as yet there is nothing. I will take a decision in these few weeks."

PSV will be looking to give Toivonen a year's renewal, with his current deal set to expire next summer.

As if to mend bridges, Toivonen has been given nine Eredivisie appearances already, and the 27-year-old responded with a goal on Sunday in a 2-1 win over RKC Waalwijk.
