Spain's footballing federation has been told to wait until Tuesday for a response from their Brazilian counterparts over Diego Costa's Brazil playing time before FIFA takes any action.

According to Spanish daily AS, the RFEF have already enquired twice with FIFA about a certificate from the CBF that will confirm Costa has taken no part in any official game for Brazil.

That certificate will prove enough for Costa to switch allegiance to Spain, something the player is understood to be keen on himself.

The last few days had seen positive signs with regards to Costa's switch, though "bureaucratic hurdles" were being cited as the reason behind the lack of confirmation.

And it has now emerged that part of the hurdles is the CBF's delay in providing the certificate that would allow Costa his wishes.

It is believed that FIFA could step in with their own request if the CBF have not offered a response by Tuesday.

The situation could be complicated by the fact that Costa has, in fact, made two friendly appearances for Brazil in March this year.

However, the Atletico Madrid forward was never picked for the Confederations Cup, and Spain are keen to receive the certificate that would effectively nullify March's games for Costa.

It is not clear why the CBF have been delaying given that Spain's first request had gone in on 4th October.

A second enquiry with FIFA has been made and it remains to be seen if the world governing body will have to step in to speed things up for Vicente del Bosque.
