Marc-Andre ter Stegen's links with becoming Victor Valdes' successor at Barcelona have been rubbished as speculation by his agent.

Ter Stegen, who is contracted at Borussia Monchengladbach, is one of the favourites to join Barcelona when Valdes leaves the club next summer.

The German is being linked alongside Belgium and Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who is himself centrally contracted to Chelsea, and Pepe Reina, who is also serving a loan, from Liverpool at Napoli.

However, Ter Stegen's agent Gerd vom Bruch today told the Rheinische Post: "The rumours from Spain are pure speculation.

"The fact is that there are two or three really good teams that are interested in Marc. But Gladbach also know this.

"We are going to talk about a contract extension, but not now because Marc is travelling with the national team and [the club’s sporting director] Max Eberl is also not in Gladbach."

The 21-year-old Ter Stegen, who has already made eight appearances for Gladbach this season, is contracted at the club until 2015.

Ter Stegen's performances have earned him rave reviews both in Germany and abroad, but that has meant the rumours have also abounded.

Both Ter Stegen and Gladbach spent a lot of the summer denying a move was imminent, even if recent reports claimed he was willing to switch to Catalunya.
