Monaco have joined the hunt for Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao, keeping close tabs on the Portuguese ahead of a possible January swoop.

Coentrao was at the centre of late drama on transfer deadline day in September as Manchester United raced against the clock to take him to Old Trafford on loan.

Ultimately the Red Devils did not get their man, with Real Madrid pulling the plug on the deal when they themselves could not secure Brazilian left-back Guilherme Siqueira, who joined Benfica.

Manchester United have been tipped to return for Coentrao when the window opens again in January, but the Red Devils have company when it comes to signing the former Benfica man.

Indeed, Juventus are fans of the 25-year-old while, according to Spanish daily AS, Monaco are in the hunt with the duo too.

Claudio Ranieri's men are monitoring Coentrao's situation at the Bernabeu with a view to tempting him to the Stade Louis II in January.

Coentrao joined Real Madrid from Benfica in 2011, but has fallen out of favour at Los Blancos.
