Bayer Leverkusen striker Stefan Kiessling has defended himself for claiming the “phantom goal” that he scored in his side’s 2-1 win over Hoffenheim on Friday.
The BayArena outfit were leading 1-0 when the striker headed the ball from a corner, which missed the goal but flew in through a hole in the net.
And to everybody’s bewilderment, the referee awarded the goal to the 29-year-old.
Kiessling then came in for criticism from all corners for not owning up to the truth.

But the Bayer Leverkusen forward claims that he was not aware of a hole in the net and stated that it is hard for him to digest all the criticism directed towards him.
Kiessling was quoted by the BBC as saying: "The whole criticism against me in the past few days is very hard because everyone accuses me of having seen it.
"People know that if that was the case I would have come out said there is a hole there."
Kiessling, who joined Bayer Leverkusen from Nurnberg in 2006, has scored 120 goals in 291 appearances in all competitions for the club.
