Real Madrid have asked FIFA president Sepp Blatter to apologise for "disrespectful" remarks made about Cristiano Ronaldo in a speech given at Oxford University last week.

Blatter, when asked who of Lionel Messi and Ronaldo would win the Ballon d'Or, said he preferred the former, whilst likening Ronaldo to "a commander on the field".

Blatter went on to mimic a commander's march and later described Ronaldo as having "more expenses for the hairdresser than the other".

Real Madrid have seemingly not found the FIFA chief's comments funny, and manager Carlo Ancelotti today revealed a complaint had been sent off.

"The president [Florentino Perez] has sent a letter to Fifa asking Blatter to rectify his comments that showed a lack of respect to Cristiano", Ancelotti was quoted by AS as saying.

In his speech, given more than two days prior to the announcement of the Ballon d'Or shortlist, Blatter said of the duo: "They are both exceptional players, but they are totally different. They are totally different stars.

"Lionel Messi is a good boy, that every father and every mother would like to take home. He's a good man, he's very fast, and he's not exuberant, he's playing well, he's dancing.

"He's a kind man, a good boy. That's what makes him so popular, and naturally he'll always get a lot of votes because he plays well and scores goal.

"The other one is something else. He is like a commander on the field of play. They don't have the same attitude and that gives life to football. One has more expenses for the hairdresser than the other but that doesn't matter.

"I can't say who is the best – there will be a contest again this year at the Ballon d'Or. I like both of them, but I prefer Messi."
