Ajax are prepared to rival the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Juventus for young Jamaican talent Leon Bailey.

Bailey is a part of the Phoenix All Stars Football Academy from Jamaica, and spent time training with Belgian side Genk last year.

The academy had been making waves in Europe following training stints at club such as Bayern Munich, Rapid Vienna and Hamburg, with Ajax also one of their stops.

Bailey's talents appear to have found their way into the scouting books at Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Juventus and Liverpool.

And Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has now indicated his club's inkling, telling De Telegraaf: "Leon is a very interesting player. And that's the only thing I want to say about that."

Bailey could be offered a three-year deal, something that Overmars is working to achieve alongside issues of work permits.

Ajax are no strangers to taking the path less travelled. They broke new ground in early October when they signed their first Chinese player in Wang Chengkuai.

It is not clear if Bailey will actually be signed up by Ajax, but his prospects could mirror those of Wang, who had himself been on trial with the Eredivisie giants.
