Spanish champions Barcelona have placed themselves firmly in the running for FC Groningen starlet Richairo Zivkovic, sending a scout to watch the 17-year-old in Eredivisie action on Sunday.

After a season of introductions from the bench which have yielded four league goals, Zivkovic was handed his first Eredivisie start by Groningen against Roda JC at the weekend and completed 89 minutes before being substituted.

And up in the stands sat a Barcelona talent spotter, something Groningen were very happy to see.

"We very hardly ever have a scout from Barcelona here", the club's managing director Hans Nijland told Dutch daily the Algemeen Dagblad.

"We often have people from Premier League and Bundesliga clubs present", he added.

Zivkovic, who quickly earned the label the "new Arjen Robben", has seen serious interest from Premier League side Liverpool already this year.

Now Barcelona are in the thick of admiring Zivkovic's talents, as he continues to take first team steps in Holland's top flight.

Zivkovic is under contract with Groningen until 2016.
