Juventus are putting plans in place in the event of Andrea Pirlo's potential departure from the club at the end of the season, with Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso their preferred replacement.

The Bianconeri are thought to be unwilling to meet Pirlo's demands over a new contract – his current deal expires next summer – and a number of clubs are eyeing the veteran schemer.

Juventus are determined to only re-sign Pirlo on their terms and are ready to pounce for Alonso.

According to Italian daily Corriere della Sera, Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta has identified Alonso as his preferred replacement for Pirlo.

Alonso is in a similar situation to Pirlo in that his own contract expires next summer.

Juventus feel the Spaniard would be open to continuing his career in Serie A and could prove a perfect fit in Pirlo's position.

Pirlo is thought to be on Tottenham Hotspur's radar.
