Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has dropped a fresh spanner of sorts in the works around potential signing Marc-Andre ter Stegen by stating the club may buy more than one Victor Valdes replacement.

Borussia Monchengladbach have been trying to state their position that Ter Stegen will not be leaving for Barcelona next summer.

There is speculation about an agreement for Ter Stegen, though names like Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois and Liverpool's Pepe Reina have also been strongly linked with Barcelona.

It is believed that Ter Stegen is firmly on Barcelona's mind, after Zubizarreta revealed he had held talks with the player's agent and family.

However, the saga has taken a twist, with Zubizarreta today telling Sport: "We have not decided whether we will take one or two goalkeepers.

"The first decision is to bring one to replace Victor [Valdes] but we have not decided if it will be two.

"I will not mention names of any goalkeepers. People know I went to Germany but they do not know who I was with or who I saw."

Barcelona could also give Jose Manuel Pinto a chance, with the second-choice goalkeeper currently on 63 appearances in his five years so far.

"We will speak to coach Gerardo Martino", Zubizarreta added. "First we will look at what we have at home, as usual. Pinto has done very well these years."
