Hugo Lloris has saluted a "great achievement" after France booked their spot at the 2014 World Cup with a 3-0 comeback win over Ukraine.

In Kyiv on Friday night France had gone down to a 2-0 defeat to Ukraine, which seemed to make their task of qualifying for the World Cup extremely difficult.

But the French were determined to come through the World Cup playoff tie and immediately laid siege to the Ukraine goal when the whistle was blown in Paris.

Two goals from defender Mamadou Sakho, his first in international football, along with one from Karim Benzema, made sure of a 3-0 win and a World Cup spot.

Lloris played his part too with a number of important saves, including one late on when just one Ukraine goal would have sent the visitors through on away goals.

And the goalkeeper understands the level of achievement France have produced.

"This is a great pleasure, a historic moment because we came very far", he told TF1.

"At half-time, the speech was to remain calm and collected. This is what we did and it is a great achievement.

"We reacted like a great team with great players."
