Barcelona will be without Victor Valdes for the rest of the year due to a calf injury, the club have confirmed.

Valdes picked up the injury whilst on international duty with Spain against South Africa on Tuesday and had to be replaced in the second half.

Initial speculation had suggested a month on the sidelines but Barcelona have now confirmed the goalkeeper could be out for up to six weeks.

"According to the club’s medical services, tests confirm that Víctor Valdes sustained a proximal myotendinous rupture in the calf muscle of his right leg", a club statement said.

Valdes is certain to leave Barcelona for next season at the end of his contract. For now, it is believed that Jose Manuel Pinto will take over goalkeeping duties at the club.

The 38-year-old Pinto has been at Barcelona for over five years and has made 63 appearances for the senior team.
