Manchester City want to sign Iker Casillas from Real Madrid next summer, according to Spanish daily AS.

Casillas has endured nine months acting as Real Madrid's first choice goalkeeper only in Champions League and Copa del Rey games, while rival custodian Diego Lopez takes the gloves in La Liga matches.

Manchester City are keen to scoop up the Spain number 1 to solve their own goalkeeping dilemma, which has seen manager Manuel Pellegrini lose faith in England shot-stopper Joe Hart.

Hart is set to be handed the chance to impress tomorrow evening when Manchester City take on Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League. But the writing already looks to be on the wall for Hart in the long-term at the Citizens.

The England goalkeeper is currently being kept out of Premier League action by Romanian custodian Costel Pantilimon.

Casillas has warned over his future at Real Madrid if he continues to warm the bench, but there is little sign of coach Carlo Ancelotti changing a state of affairs first brought in by his predecessor Jose Mourinho.

The goalkeeper has however held onto his starting spot for Spain, under Vicente del Bosque.
