Hamburg have scored a coup by persuading defensive starlet Jonathan Tah to pen a contract extension with the club.

Tah has interested English Premier League duo Arsenal and Manchester United, something Hamburg have acknowledged.

But the Bundesliga club have quickly pushed the 17-year-old up the ranks and he has played regular first team football for the side this term.

And that, plus the arrival of former Holland coach Bert van Marwijk, has convinced Tah to sign a new deal.

The defender's contract has been extended by a period of two years, meaning it now expires in 2018.

"We are glad that we have been able to keep a homegrown talent like Jonathan at the club", Hamburg sporting director Oliver Kreuzer told the club's official site.

"We have found his development to be very positive and wanted to lay the foundations for a long-term partnership."

Tah himself is also pleased to have thrashed out his future, commenting: "I am delighted with the trust placed in me.

"For me it was always clear that I want to continue playing here."
