Bayer Leverkusen have secured a coup by agreeing a deal with young German wing sensation Julian Brandt, who had been on the radar at clubs such as Bayern Munich and Chelsea.

Brandt is currently in Wolfsburg's youth ranks, but despite repeated overtures from the Volkswagen Arena outfit refused to sign a new contract and will leave at the end of the season when his present deal expires.

And Leverkusen have won the race for the 17-year-old wunderkind, with sporting director Rudi Voller beaming: "He will come to us.

"[The only thing] to decide is whether it will be in January or next summer."

Brandt has been tipped for big things after shining for both Wolfsburg and Germany at youth levels.

The Wolves have previously been clear that he would see out his contract at the Volkswagen Arena even he decided to leave, but it remains to be seen if their stance changes now that Brandt has committed himself to Sami Hyypia's men.

And any decision to allow Brandt to join Leverkusen early could have repercussions elsewhere.

Leverkusen winger Sidney Sam is a wanted man and has a release clause which would allow him to leave for just €2.5m in the summer, something which has put his suitors on high alert.

With Liverpool amongst the clubs interested in the Germany international, Leverkusen could opt to sell Sam in January if they can count on Brandt to arrive to take his place.
